Remembering Averil Williams
"It is a great sadness to inform you of the death of Averil Williams. She had been ill for some weeks and died peacefully on Sunday evening, the 25th March.
"Averil’s funeral service will be on Saturday, 12th May, at 10.45 a.m. at St. John the Baptist church, Spencer Hill, Wimbledon, London SW19 4NZ. There will be a reception afterwards nearby but we have no details yet.
The family request that instead of flowers people make a donation to The Royal Trinity Hospice at Clapham."
After we received this message from the Chair of the SAP Council, Trustees who knew Averil commented:
"We'll remember Averil with great fondness. An elegant lovely woman, and brilliant workshop leader."
"Synchronistically, I heard a solo flautist playing Debussy’s Syrinx on the radio on the day she died, taking me back to Averil’s own interpretation of that haunting music one summer evening at Cumberland Lodge. She was a lovely and special person."
"Averil was a good friend to the Champernowne Trust. For some years, she led the music workshop on the annual summer course. She was a professional musician of the highest status as well as a music therapist and psychotherapist. The summer course was privileged to hear her flute playing on occasions during the entertainment evenings and as an accompanist to the committee presentations on the first evening of the course."
"Averil was a good friend and colleague, a woman of great integrity and compassion."
