History
The Withymead community was one of the first,
most extensive and sustained early developments
of the arts as psychotherapy
Irene Champernowne was a Jungian analyst, whose inspirational leadership of the Withymead experiment in art and therapy was seminal for British Art therapy. Between 1942 and 1967, the Withymead community was one of the first, most extensive and sustained early developments of the arts as psychotherapy. Its influence lives on in the tradition of the Trust and the Summer Course.
